Restaurant Review | Roka

So you’re looking for Japanese in London? – look no further! I think you’ll struggle to find anything that even comes close to Roka restaurant, the month on month waiting lists will vouch for me on that. Okay, it’s a little pricey but don’t let that put you off. It’s sublime, from the atmosphere to the food to the cocktail menu, it’s one for the bucket list.

Following the enormous success of sister restaurant Zuma, Rainer Becker quickly recognised the huge demand for exquisite Japanese food in London and opened ROKA Charlotte Street in 2004, followed by Roka Canary Wharf in 2009 and Mayfair and Aldwych in 2014.

Do Not Miss Dishes

EVERYTHING – no but seriously. I’ve not been disappointed by one dish at Roka.
1. Miso Black Cod
2. Yellowtail Sashimi with Yuzu-Truffle Dressing
3. Black Cod, Crab & Crayfish Dumplings.

Do Not Miss Drinks

My last visit to Roka Aldwych consisted of indulging in approximately 99% of the cocktail menu – so I’d back myself as being pretty well qualified in answering this one.
1. Edamame Fizz
2. Grapefruit & Chamomile Highball
3. Tokyo Decadence

So there’s no denying this place is not cheap – but for a birthday treat or a special occasion it’s definitely worth the cost. If you’re still paying back the student loan (I feel ya) then why not head to Shochu Lounge at Roka Charlotte Street and just try a couple of small plates with a cocktail to pair?
